Choice (2021)

Nina is a caring, loving wife and mum who has become emotionally exhausted in the past two years with an active toddler, a struggling teenager and a FIFO husband. She has tried to be everything everyone needs of her but is burnt out and blocked, making her a bit harder on the surface. Her transgender teenager is a kind, sensitive, and arty school student in the process of coming out to their family. Currently displaying symptoms of an emotional shutdown, their behaviour is angry, frustrated and reactive. Responding to their coming out, Nina battles with the choices she and her family have to make and how these choices will affect her child. While Nina is unravelling clues and experiencing more realisations, we witness how discrimination and lack of understanding at school further affect her teenager's behaviour. Faced with the choice of denying her child's pleas, or accepting them, a critical turn of events becomes pivotal for Nina - but timing is everything.
