The film opens with Amy (Sophie Lander) talking to a therapist about what happens. It then cuts to a montage of her speaking to the camera as if having a conversation over a video call. She then has a conversation with her best friend, Marcus (Andrew Anthony), which is cut short by Marcus needing to leave. Her boredom causes her to wander into Facebook, where she receives a message from a boy from her school named Harvey, someone she later mentions to Marcus she finds discussing. She also receives a Facebook ad for a new site called "Gigglez" where she meets a kid named NingjaKid47. As their friendship blossoms, Amy talks more and more to NinjaKid, becoming emotionally attached to him, causing it to hurt the people she knows in real life when they beg her to get off her phone. She then reveals NinjaKid47 is really called Danny. As her relationship with Danny continues to develop, she speaks to Marcus about how things are going well. Marcus suspects that Danny is a catfish and blames Harvey, saying how she received the Gigglez invite after speaking to Harvey. She confronts Danny, who admits to being Harvey. When confronting Harvey however, he denies ever knowing who Danny is. Amy then realizes that Marcus is the one catfishing her.
