Suna and his father, Daisuke, are Japanese immigrants raised in vastly different cultures and because of this, they lack any ability to relate and bond. This struggle between the two becomes the norm but one question continues to linger as Suna ages; does father love him? As Suna matures the question is answered with spite which in turn incites his desire to distance himself from Daisuke. But after years of absence Suna receives an invite, a dinner with his father; an opportunity to spark a relationship they've never had. Daisuke wishes to make amends but Suna feels a confused sense of obligation to accept. Once they meet, an awkwardness shrouds between the two and Suna realises he isn't ready; he chooses to cut ties once again. The reunion sparks confusion which Suna tries ignoring but his significant other, Vivian, presses him to reconnect. Suna's wife had lost her own father and wishes for Suna to live without regrets she knows he could avoid. Their disagreements grow tense and overtime, burdens the family Suna holds dear; Vivian, Jun (his son) and Naomi (his mother). After a heightened argument during Jun's 8th birthday, Suna realises the problem is him - He holds onto his past preventing himself from moving on. With the support of both Vivian and Naomi, Suna visits his father with Jun. But his decision was years too late. Suna enters an apartment to find Daisuke decomposed in bed. Regrets forever linger with Suna as him and his family say farewell to a now cremated Daisuke. Did father ever love him? A question he'll ask for the rest of his life.
