Punarjanman is a Sanskrit word that refers to "repeated birth", "transmigration", "re-birth" or "a principle of diachronic ontogeny" . The title is a metaphor for the constant change and re-establishing/ rebuilding the small villiage of Mt Victoria has had to do after a series of constant challenges since 2020, including the Black Summer Bushfires, Covid 19 and recent rain and flooding. but also refers to the wider constant shifts and changes going on in the world. The film moves from a metaphoric representation of pre and post colonial Australia, pre and post fire, pre and post covid and finally ends with the beginning of the rain, which has still forced a shift and rebuilding of expectations .
