The language is Russian and so is its origin-- unlike what's quoted here. The German language (sparse but appropriate) is VOd in a feminine Russian voice. Standard subtitles in English for both. Many subplots make for rich viewing here, and production quality is at-least equal to Hollywood. World viewers appreciate the storylines which depict ordinary people doing extraordinary things in wartime-- as life must go on. Here, in each choice made by characters on both sides, the overriding option for survival-- if possible-- questions the basic timbre of individuals in a seemingly impossible environment. Eight episodes of 50 min each are barely enough, and celebrate this as long-form film-making.
