Kyunki...Jeena Issi Ka Naam Hai featured a rural setting with characters reflecting the large majority of Indians. Shabnam, in her early twenties, married, is chided by her parents for standing up to her violent husband when he accuses her of being infertile. Showing unconventional autonomy, Shabnam decides to end the abusive relationship and start her own life by training to become an Anganwadi worker in her village. Through the story of Shabnam, Kyunki Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai takes a firm and progressive stand for a healthy India in an entirely refreshing way. By encouraging positive behavior change such as HIV/AIDS, educating the girl child, gender equity and much more, Kyunki - has proved to be a beacon of change that has paved a brighter path for the women and children of India. The serial's primary objectives have been based on UNICEFs Facts for Life focusing on poor maternal and new born health. With a strong female protagonist in Shabnam along with positive characters of a widow, a teacher, a nurse, an illiterate woman, a divorcee, and a potter's daughter, Kyunki - sets up its journey of transformation from the village of Rajpura. The show portrayed a female panchayat pradhan; Kamla, the ASHA worker whose husband died on the night of the marriage; Hiralal Master ji, and ANM Savita who returns to Rajpura from city after finishing her MBA.
