Genki Kawamura is the leading producer in Japan, whose credit also includes screenwriter, director, author, creative director, and showrunner. He is currently producing for Paramount Studios alongside JJ Abrams, the Hollywood live-action adaptation of Makoto Shinkai's "your name." with Eric Heisserer ("Arrival") as a screenwriter and Marc Webb ("(500) Days of Summer") as director. His debut novel, If Cats Disappeared from the World has been translated in 16 different countries with the English language version published from Picador for the UK and Flatiron for the US (both Macmillan imprint). The book has sold over 2 million copies worldwide. In 2018, Kawamura directed "Duality" which was selected by Cannes Film Festival for the short film competition category. He produced Mamoru Hosoda's "Mirai" which premiered at the Director's Fortnight, also at Cannes. The film has been nominated for the Oscars 2019/ 91 st Academy Awards® Animated Feature Film and has won the Best Animated Feature-Independent Award at the 46th Annie Awards. Kawamura is a part of the eight creative directors who will produce the opening and closing ceremonies to the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.
