The Hungarian Revolution was a nationwide revolt against the Marxist-Leninist government of the Hungarian People's Republic and its Soviet-imposed policies, lasting from 23 October until 10 November 1956. When thousands of refugees entered Austria, the Austrian government asked world leaders to assist in taking in these refugees. Australia answered the call, and accepted 5,000 Hungarian refugees. The short film documents Australia's involvement using footage taken of refugees on the road, arriving at the Australian Migration Mission, Vienna, Austria; and at Kingsford-Smith Airport in Mascot (Australia).
