Limbo (2018)

When overachieving med-school student Zoe overdoses on amphetamines, crunching for a final, she finds herself trapped in limbo, where her soul will be judged for the afterlife. Unseen forces close in, and Zoe runs into her mother Catherine, taking the form of her younger self. Catherine guides Zoe through a forested shadow world, where orbs of light chase after them. Zoe and Catherine argue, and Zoe reveals she burned out trying to impress her mother. Catherine regrets pushing Zoe too hard, and when the two realize they've both made mistakes, they reconcile. The orbs close in, and Catherine is separated from Zoe, but not before showing her the path to escape limbo. When Zoe reaches the portal, she must choose between moving on, or returning to the land of living to try again.
