When successful Manager Lorenz picks up unemployed hitchhiker Hartmut in his Maserati, a turbulent and exciting trip through Germany begins: the two men have more in common than they'd like to believe. The ambitious Human Resources Manager of Berlin-based company Telpeak, Lorenz Hoffmann, takes 60-year old Hartmut Sprenger along to southern Germany, where he is headed for a business meeting. Lorenz has no idea who he has taken along for the ride: Hartmut, who used to be the highly esteemed head of marketing, was fired 5 years ago when his company was taken over by Telpeak. He was fired without notice and anonymously - as it turns out, by the hand of none other than Lorenz. Today - Hartmut has turned bitter and has a few odd jobs while Lorenz is in a midlife crisis despite is success at work - fate has brought the two men together again and sends them from Berlin to Munich and further on into the alps. Lorenz manages to hide his true identity for a while, but when Hartmut's teenage daughter Olivia joins them for the ride and Lorenz falls in love with Hartmut's ex-wife during a short stop over, the events summersault and the car ride turns onto an adventurous wavering course.
