An American, who has a Cuban father and American mother, is pulled between the struggles of these two countries. His Cuban family states, "Cuba isn't Cuba anymore". His family has no doubt that he is Cuban to the point they don't really understand why he wants to go - they almost forget that he has never even seen the place. This theme of paradoxes occurs in his identity and is ironically present in the name of his hotel in Cuba: Ambos Mundos - Both Worlds. The question is, "Does he belong to both worlds - or to neither?" As he travels he learns to expect the unexpected there. Ultimately, he realizes what can bring these two worlds together.
