Nazi Germany was a difficult place to be during World War II, especially for small children. Sybille, Ille, and Peter were born in Berlin where their father worked at Nazi headquarters. Unable to find work after being imprisoned for war crimes, their Father moved the family to a small town in western Germany. After the war was lost non-Nazi Germans turned on those they formerly respected, and the children faced taunts and violence from their classmates who blamed them for their father's participation in the fascist regime. When the siblings aged things became even more difficult; they learned of what the Nazi party had actually done during their reign of terror, and along with that came came the realization of what their father had participated in.
