Fleeing from the advancing North Korean forces during the Korean War, a group of civilians take refuge in the deep forests of Mt Guwol. Overtaken, they remain in hiding and assign themselves ranks. Kim Jeong-suk becomes the leader of the women and charged with outflanking the North Korean army and engage in guerilla strikes from the rear while the men attack the frontlines. A smaller group of men, led by Kim Jong-byeok are given the task of infiltrating into the enemy encampment
