The Galathea-Expedition 2 took place from 15th of October 1950 to 29th of June 1952 under the leadership of zoologist Dr. Anton Frederik Bruun from Danmarks Akvarium (Aquarium of Denmark) and commander Svend Greve. The purpose was partly scientific, partly promoting Danish Culture and Business in the planned countries of arrival. The scientific purpose was primarily focused on deep-sea research. Deep-sea animal life, Hydrographic surveys and Measurements of the Earth magnetism. The Frigate Galathea sailed 63,700 nautical miles (118,000 km) during its round the world trip, visited 26 countries and 70 ports. In the movie we see it visiting: Lisbon in Portugal. Liberia, Ghana, Cape Town in South Africa, Madagascar, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), Singapore, Bangkok in Thailand. Manila in The Philippines, The Philippine Trench, Australia, Campbell Island in New Zealand. Tonga, Samoa, Hawaii, Panama and the Panama Canal, The Atlantic and Elsinore.
