Two hearts lie side by side on the table. One has stopped beating while the other is yet to start. The man at the middle of our story is being kept alive by an artificial pump. A team of medical professionals are fighting for his life. He is fighting, too. He's been waiting for this for years, with a constant eye on the news to spot car crashes.
