Rannyaya rzhavchina (1980)

Latvia, 1930s. Without success a poor rural girl, Elsa, looks for work in Riga. Unexpectedly, she gets proposal from a rich but old businessman. Elsa agrees to marry him in the hope for a new, prosperous life. Marriage without love becomes an unbearable burden for her. Soon, Elsa falls in love with a stranger who turns out to be the son of her husband.
