After Henry Banfield and his wife separate, each takes one of their sons to rear. The boy reared by the mother in poverty becomes a thief and eventually gains notoriety as a gentleman crook called Raffles. Moving easily within high society, he calls himself Detective Danvers during daylight hours. John, the boy reared by his father in luxury, becomes a clergyman and falls in love with Norma Harmon, the daughter of a wealthy banker. Norma, however, loves Danvers, who, aided by his faithful butler, robs the Harmon mansion and the bank. Banfield discovers that the burglar is his brother and lets him escape, but Danvers turns himself over to the police and decides to reform for Norma's sake.
