Degrees of debt (1996)

1996, and student grants were diminishing in real terms, while loans and debt were increasing. The film highlights issues of the time, and how things have - and have not - changed. There's a comparison between student funding and unemployment benefits which looks very different today. Guests include Stephen Fry (then Rector at Dundee) and Richard Wilson (then Rector at Glasgow). You get to see an astonishingly youthful Ian Hislop, and the listed murals of Sivells, in what was Aberdeen's Union. Also features several politicians including the late Robin Cook.
