Around the globe, high voltage transmission towers dot the landscape everywhere that electricity is delivered. While nearly everyone in the United States takes advantage of the job these steel behemoths perform, precious few question why these towers look the way they do. Charged: The Towers that Power our World goes behind the scenes with a few dedicated engineers who are redefining our horizons by pushing the physical and electrical boundaries of transmission tower design. Mike Khavari, Chair of the ASCE "Aesthetic Design of Transmission Line Structure" committee, serves as our guide, leading us through high mountain passes in Colorado, where transmission towers are designed to blend into the environment. From there, Mike and a lineup of the world's leading experts and designers introduce us to beautiful, artistic, mesmerizing, and at times nearly unbelievable towers in Russia, Finland, Indiana, and Florida.
