Would you recognise an abusive relationship if it was right in front of you? Comedian Becky Lucas, recently found out that one of her best childhood friends, Jess, had suffered years of horrific violence and abuse at the hands her partner. At the time Becky had suspected something might be wrong with the relationship but wasn't sure what to do about it and so she did nothing. As her friend Jess was slowly isolated away by her perpetrator Becky just assumed they were growing apart with no idea of the violence and control that was dominating Jess's world. Becky still feels a deep regret that she didn't act on her suspicions and help her friend. But what does an abusive relationship even look like? How does it begin? And what can anyone do if they suspect someone they know is in trouble? These are the questions Becky sets out to answer. On her journey Becky will meets with young survivors of domestic violence, experts, psychologists and even conduct a social experiment on the street to test the average bystander. As a comedian Becky is used to making jokes about taboo subjects but now she's on a journey to bring the taboo subject of domestic violence into the spotlight. Becky is on a mission to work out how she could have helped her friend Jess and in turn uncover what anyone can do if they suspect someone they know or love is in trouble.
