"Cahuenga, Place of the Hill" is a short, impressionistic documentary which explores the history and current fate of the Tataviam Native American tribe which occupied parts of the Los Angeles area since before the coming of the Spanish. The film stands as a lament for a people who have lost their traditional homeland, along with most of their language and heritage. However, it ends on a hopeful note as the remaining tribe members try to reconstruct their culture. The film features digitally reconstructed tribal songs recorded in the early 20th century on wax cylinders.
