In the summer of 1943 Rome experienced one of the most intense and tormented periods in its history. On 19 July the Eternal City underwent the first aerial bombing since the beginning of the war. The collapse of fascism and the announcement of the armistice mark the beginning of the Nazi occupation of the capital. Since then, until June 4, 1944, Rome has experienced nine dramatic months, characterized by a long series of mourning and destruction. The documentary punctuates the events of those days at a fast pace, reconstructing the facts, known and less known, through the testimonies of the protagonists of the time and using rare and unpublished images taken from the Historical Archive of the Istituto Luce.
