Somos Borderlands (2022)

From Boca Chica Beach to Rio Grande City, this documentary dreamscape takes the viewer on a short personal tour of the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas. The film serves to highlight some of the people, perspectives, and spaces of today through the music and lore of "Futuro Conjunto"--a prophetic transmedia musical album by Charlie Vela and Jonathan Leal, intertwined with reverence and imagination. The artistic post-apocalyptic thought experiment "Futuro Conjunto" represents the near future historical, environmental, and political analogies embedded within the current real stories of the Rio Grande Valley today. With the help of local weatherman Tim Smith, our storytellers Charlie Vela and Jonathan Leal add to this exploration of the Valley through their personal experience and relationship growing up here--evoking timelessness through music.
