On March 5th, 1937, the battle of Cape Matxitxako took place, a naval confrontation between four 'bous', small, lightly armed cod boats, which did everything possible to defend the merchant ship Galdames, which was on its way to Bilbao with Republican refugees when it was attacked by the Canarias, flagship of the Nationalist side. MATXITXAKO tells the story of the naval battle 85 years after its occurrence, delving into the Basque Auxiliary Navy -created by the Basque Government to support the defense in the Bay of Biscay- and the memory of those who participated in this lost story of the Civil War, sailors who fought to defend their values, lands and families.
