Ninavau, a native Kadazan woman, returns from Peninsula Malaysia to her devout Catholic family in Sabah with a change of heart. A sensitive performance by Jovenea Jim, who plays the titular character, captures the struggle of being caught between one's family and one's faith. Religion often underpins our answers to life's existential questions surrounding identity, purpose, and death. Ninavau explores the consequences of a religious conversion, and the subsequent ruptures caused by this shift to another way of being. What would keep those on either side of the divide from complete separation?
