In the first half of the last century, Ueshiba Morihei developed Aikido from Jujutsu and other martial arts. It consists only of defense techniques, mostly in spiraling movements. The focus is on the harmonious solution of a conflict, the attacker should not be defeated or even killed. Shortly before his death, O Sensei ("the great master") sent his best students out into the world to spread Aikido. A young Japanese named Katsuaki Asai ended up in Münster in the early 1960s, in a country completely unknown to him, which for its part was little prepared for Far Eastern teachings. But the seemingly impossible mission led to an unexpected success: Having matured to become a grand master himself, he enthuses one generation after the other for this peaceful martial arts with a sharp eye and quiet humor. Master Asai's journey through Germany has now lasted for 50 years.
