Set in a post-apocalyptic alternate present, a girl leaves her bedroom for the forest, and finds herself at a fabulous dance party, surrounded by a posse of outrageous new friends. Bird Party is a surreal narrative music video created by Ariadne Greif and cinematographer Caroline Mariko Stucky for the Ultima Festival in Oslo, for a children's contemporary music concert during September 2020. It is a slow-moving love letter to 2020, with all of its dark turbulence and new birdsong, to nature, to loneliness, friends, change, and the future, an homage to music that felt personal during that time, as well as a nod to some delicious children's literature, music, and films, ranging from Where the Wild Things Are to The Red Balloon and Teddy Bear's Picnic. It was also in part inspired by Inger Christensen's Alphabet. It was also intended to be an opportunity for kids and adults to dance off the bad vibes of 2020. It was created entirely at home and in parks in New York, starring its own production team of four neighbors and four young people who are writers, poets, and activists. It features a special couture collection by designer Johnny Vendiola, original music and arrangements written and performed entirely by Ariadne Greif, multi-tracked in her living room.
