New York City disability rights activists have been fighting for a fully accessible transit system and full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, for 30 years. Jessica Murray, a researcher and disability rights activist investigates accessibility in the New York City Transit System over a two year period wherein she progresses from a vocal activist to a person of actual influence and import in the system, all while under the shadow of her own imminent decline into disability. People with a variety of disabilities discuss and demonstrate their experiences with the transit system and their activism to fight for their rights. They participate in numerous protests, court cases and press conferences, pressing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to comply with the ADA and make the system fully accessible. New York City Transit President Andy Byford, in an exclusive interview and ride-along, discusses his work to improve accessibility and the drama of his relationship with New York State Governor Cuomo, who effectively controls the MTA.
