In 1970, the height of the repression by the military dictatorship, five imprisoned guerrillas went public and renounced the armed struggle and praised the regime. With the repercussions of the declarations, the government decided to transform the retractions into State practice. It began to torture opponents to do the mea-culpa. Until 1975, about forty prisoners participated in the "regrets", as they became known. "The Repentants" retells the little-remembered story of ex-militants who, at a very young age, dropped everything to risk their lives for a cause, were arrested and tortured, and became propaganda weapons for their enemies.
