Capitol Insurrection

Not since the War of 1812 has the United States Capitol been under siege. On January 6, 2021 insurrectionists departed a rally on the Ellipse south of the White House and marched to the U.S. Capitol building, where many of them confronted law enforcement and stormed the Capitol building in an attempt to subvert the will of the electorate. They were ultimately unsuccessful.
