Chekhov (2023)

Chekhov is the nickname that was given to a theatre actor who survived the Syrian underground Secret Service prison. He lives in Europe now, struggling to deal with the bloody, inhumane experiences he had faced in his home, Syria. In his mind palace, he creates a stage to reflect on the agonizing time he spent in the prison. On this stage, he feels safe and speaks comically about undergoing torture in custody and witnessing death. The storyline has a twist, when we find ourselves in 2099 within a comedic, over-the-top game show, where the beautiful hostess Jamila is interviewing the only contender participating with a surreal series of questions about the torture methods that were being applied in Syria decades ago while the contender is only focused on winning the prize.
