The Blue Fairy (1958) show was broadcast in Chicago, Illinois from WGN-TV channel 9. It could be seen during the 7:30pm to 8:00pm time slot. This daily prime time children's show is one of the first to be produced and broadcast in color. Starring a young 13 year old Brigid Bazlen as the Blue Fairy. The Blue Fairy, wearing a blue satin gown and topped off with a diamond tiara on her head while holding a magic wand, would float down into this magic land called the Blue Forest. While floating down she would say in a gentile voice; "I'm the Blue Fairy. I'll grant you a wish to make all your dreams come true!" An oversized mushroom was used as her throne. During the show the Blue Fairy would visited the subjects of the Blue Forest. Puppet characters were used as the subjects. Characters such as Pugnacious R. Jones, Myrtle Flower, and a Wizard, who would often sneeze. These puppets were the creation of George Nelle and writer-director Don Kane and operated by Rufus Rose Marionettes. On the set of the Blue Forset there usually were a half dozen studio audience children to greet the Blue Fairy. The puppet subjects would scribe "Words of Wisdom" down on a tablet and offer it to the Blue Fairy. She then would use these "Words of Wisdom" as a teaching tool for the children. Such things as "Always tell the truth", "always say please and thank you", or "play nice, don't fight" were the lessons told to the children. During the shows short run it received a Peabody Award for top children program in 1958. The Blue Fairy lasted only one season. Even though it was receiving praises in the newspapers and received an award it disappeared from television forever. Because of it's short run not many remember this great children's show.
