Wablief - an episodic comedy - is a cinematic calling card exploring feminism, culture, and the life of the itinerant artist circa 2020. The genesis of this project parallels our protagonist's lives in some respects. While attending the Fusion International Film Festival in Belgium in August 2019, I was commiserating with another frustrated (unemployed) actress. Rather than bemoaning our mutual situations we decided to combine our talents and shoot a scene from a feature film that I'd written over fifteen years ago. Adding some of our own cultural experiences while traveling abroad, Wablief was born. Enlisting assistance from generous and talented professionals, including the festival itself, a scene from Wablief was shot in seven hours. For this Montclair State University grad, former NYC struggling actor, Second City improvisor, award winning writer, and all-around-hustler, this was finally a dream come true. Under the skillful direction of native Berliner Leonard Garner, who brings his acerbic wit and precise timing to every beat, along with multi-talented DP Richard Todd Stevens at the helm, and veteran doc filmmaker Maryanne Galvin who lent her producing skills in the shadows, part of the pilot episode of Wablief was then filmed in Warsaw in November. Co-stars Hermann Weiskop (Austria), Jordan Heron (Canada) and Sabrina Culver, a dual citizen of The Netherlands and the USA, rounded out the team.
