After surviving an acid attack, elementary teacher Paloma Vega (Laura Santa Cruz) tries to reintegrate into society, determined to prove she is more than a marred face. Other in her life aren't quite so sure. In a conversation at home, her mother (Ingrid Marquez) suggests she apply to be a clown so that she could continue to work with children. Marina (Carly Turro), a teacher friend, visits her and after discussing her own wedding, suggests since the parent teacher association is not allowing her to return to school, that perhaps there might be a place for her in a burn unit at the hospital. Paloma goes back to her school to meet with Thomas White (Jeff Johnson), the principal, where she rebuffed in getting her teaching job back. It is on the street corner when she is hiding half of her face, when a stranger (Valeria Chavez) speaks words of encouragement to her. In her words, she soon realizes she needs to come to terms with her new identity before the world can accept her. For the first time, she allows herself to uncover a mirror and view herself. She describes it as "liberating" to her therapist.
